Advanced animation for elearning in Storyline
Storyline contains a great range of built-in animation functions you can use for bringing images and text into and out of your elearning slides, in addition to transitions between slides. However, for more complex animations, the Add Motion Path option has the most customizable features.
Using Add Motion Path allows you to draw curved or multi-stage paths, change the orientation of your object, refine the speed at which the object moves relative to the beginning or end of its motion, and more!
Selecting Relative End Point allows you to reuse animation path lines, such as this cursor entering numbers on a keypad. It moves 6 times, but only 4 motion paths are needed, as the line motion to movie right and line motion to move down is used twice each.
Relative End Point means that the object can continue moving from whichever position it was in last. If not, the object will reset to the original placement before moving.
The feature “Orient Shape to Path”, allows objects to face the direction it is moving in when on a non-linear path. This is a very useful animation type when trying to add animations for objects that face the direction they’re moving in, such as arrows, or props such as cars.
There are also triggers to enhance the possibilities of using motion paths which allow you to tie complex programming to your animations.
You can now choose to have other actions happen when the object on your motion path intersects with another object, leaves the intersection with another object, or enters or leaves the slide. These triggers have all kinds of possibilities for adding engaging content to your elearning. For instance, you could animate an object traveling along a road or timeline, and at certain points when the object moves over a landmark or point on the path, you can trigger a popup to open automatically with information.
